Hook and Line Day that took place on Saturday, September 17th, 2005. The Burnt Islands Economic Development Board hosted this fun filled day. Free fish and cake was provided as well as live entertainment by Reazen.

Nomination Day

The Town of Burnt Islands well be having Nomination Day on October 6, 2005. Only 3 candidates stepped forward for councillors seat, Keith Edmundıs, Wallace Kinslow and Alfred Taylor, while one incumbent Kevin Hardy was nominated for Mayor, and Alfred Taylor was nominated for Deputy Mayor.

Radio Station

Work will finally commence on September 26, to renovate the old Fire Hall into the new radio stations headquarters. Supervisor, Charlie Fudge and carpenters; Nancy King, Sharon Lawrence and Alfreda Hardy have been hired to construct these offices. Godfrey Prosser and William Bryan has been hired for the two radio trainees.

Seeking New Members

The Burnt Islands Economic Board (BIEDB) are now seeking new members to join their committee. 1 member is being requested to join for a 1 year term and 3 members are being requested to sign a 2 year term. All nominators must state the name of the candidate and be signed by the proposer and seconder. Nominations must be submitted to the Economic Development Officer on or before October 7th, 2:00 pm at the Board Office.

Reverse Osmosis System

The Reverse Osmosis (RO) System is now completed. Free drinking water is now available to all residents of Burnt Islands. Town Hall Hours Monday to Thursday: 8-5pm Friday: 8-12pm

Fundraising

The Firettes will be having monthly fundraisers to raise money for a new fire truck. October 1st, 2005 - Sub Sale October 22nd, 2005 - T.V. Bingo. Beginning at 2:00pm. October 29th,2005- Halloween Dance. Ages: Infants - 13 years Time: 1:30 - 4:00pm Location: Orange Lodge Prizes will be given and games will be played. Adult Dance at the Orange Lodge. Admission $3.00. Prizes for best costumes. Music by: Lodge Disco.

Road Work

Humber Valley paving will be here in approximately 2 weeks. Causeway Extension to Plant Rd. and High St. is expected to get paved.

The town of Burnt Islands wishes to advise its residents that clean up week will be from October 10th - 14th, 2005

BBQ Fundraiser

Grandyıs River Collegiate Athletic Committee will be having a BBQ fundraiser on Sunday, October 2nd. Location:Grandyıs River Collegiate Start Time: 11:00 am. Hamburger, Bologna Burgers, Hot Dogs and Pop will be sold

Come Home Year Committee

After the 2005 Burnt Islands Come Home Year, the money that was generated was given back to the community. Above is a photo of Ms. Arlene Keeping (Come Home Year Chair) presenting a cheque to Mr. Allan Keeping (Fire Chief) valued at $10,000. The committee also made the following donations to other local groups: $1000.00 - Grandy's River Collegiate Breakfast Program, $1000.00 - LOL, $1000.00 - LOBA, $1600.00 - Burnt Islands Recreation Playground, $2000.00 - Hospital, and $2000.00 - St. George's Anglican Church.
