2006
Tax Changes

The 1999 Municipalities Act has a new subsection. This new subsection, while retaining the right of municipalities to establish due dates for the payment of taxes, now stipulates that the latest due date that a municipality can establish is June 30th each year. This new subsection now provides councillors with a period of 30 days after the established due date. However, if a councillors taxes remain in arrears after this 30 day period subsequent to the established due date, his or her seat would be automatically vacated.
